What is BGMI?
Battlegrounds Mobile India, known as BGMI, is a battle royale made by Krafton specifically for players in India. It offers the familiar PUBG-style gameplay, maps and modes, with content, events and policies tailored to Indian players. PUBG Mobile is the global version available in many other countries.
What is the same
Both games share the core experience: dropping onto a map, looting weapons and gear, and surviving to be the last player or squad standing. Maps like Erangel and Miramar, many weapons, and the general control scheme feel very similar. Players moving between them adapt quickly.
What is different
- Servers and accounts: separate; progress does not move between them.
- Events and collaborations: each runs its own, often on different schedules.
- Redeem codes: BGMI codes work only in BGMI, PUBG Mobile codes only in PUBG Mobile.
- Esports: BGMI has its own Indian tournaments.
- Policies: BGMI includes features such as playtime limits for younger players.
Redeem codes
PUBG Mobile codes are redeemed on its official Redemption Center. BGMI has its own official redemption page. Do not mix them; a code for one will fail on the other. Our PUBG Mobile codes guide covers the global version.
UC in both
Both games use UC as premium currency, but balances are separate. Buy only through official stores or partners listed on each game’s official site. Our UC guide explains safe options.
Which should you play?
Players in India should use BGMI, which is built for them and follows local rules. Players elsewhere should use PUBG Mobile. Download only from official app stores.
A short history
PUBG Mobile launched globally and became one of the world’s biggest mobile games. In India, the game was later replaced by Battlegrounds Mobile India, published by Krafton, which was built specifically for Indian players. BGMI has had its own launch, updates and periods of availability. Today, the two run side by side for different regions.
Maps and modes
Both games include classic battle royale maps like Erangel, Miramar and Sanhok, and arena modes for quicker matches. New maps and modes may arrive at different times in each game. Event modes and themed collaborations usually differ, so players following both will notice different seasonal content.
Esports scene
PUBG Mobile has a large global esports scene with international tournaments. BGMI has its own Indian tournaments and teams. Watching official esports streams is also a common time to find redeem codes for each game.
Settings carry over?
Your sensitivity, layout and graphics settings do not automatically transfer between the two games. If you switch, copy your settings manually, or use the layout code features some versions offer.
Safety tips for both
- Download only from official app stores.
- Bind your account to a secure login.
- Buy UC only through official channels.
- Ignore “free UC” or “free skins” offers from strangers.
